Kevin Smith (Partner)

Kevin Smith received his law degree in 1981 from the University of Michigan. He is licensed to practice law in the states of California, Michigan, Nevada, and New York, and has more than twenty five years of business litigation experience. Mr. Smith previously practiced as a trial attorney with Dewey Ballantine in both New York and California. He also spent two years as a partner at Farmer & Ridley in Los Angeles before becoming a partner of Hines Henderson. He is admitted to practice in all courts in the State of California, the State of Nevada, the United States Tax Court, and is also admitted to practice before the Third, Sixth and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.

Currently, Mr. Smith practices in the areas of tax litigation, insurance litigation, general business litigation, including construction defect and real estate litigation. Mr. Smith has argued appeals within California’s appellate system and in the Second, Third, Sixth and Ninth Circuits of the federal appellate system. He also has litigated complex tax and insurance related matters before the United States Tax Court and also has represented an Illinois insurance carrier in one of the largest property and casualty cases in California history. Mr. Smith has represented insurance companies, small and large commercial enterprises, real estate and construction companies and financial institutions, and his specialty is the efficient and effective handling of complex, multi-party litigation.

Mr. Smith's professional affiliations are the Orange County, Los Angeles County and California State Bar Associations, and he is an active member of the Insurance Law section of the State Bar. Mr. Smith is an avid golfer and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Southern California Golf Association and the Southern California Golf Association Foundation. He also co-hosts the popular, nationally syndicated sports radio show, “Tee It Up,” and is a frequent contributor to golfing publications.
